Community Vitality in Action

Community Advisors

Story:

The Victoria Foundation has a new group of 25 community advisor volunteers who are evolving into the eyes and ears of the Foundation in the community. As the Foundation becomes more pro-active in its vision of connecting people who care with causes that matter® it is looking to this group to meet face to face with the charitable organizations that deal with the day-to-day reality of the community’s challenges.

Community advisors do site visits with Foundation staff where they evaluate difficulties facing an organization, as well as opportunities and possible solutions.

The wide spectrum of knowledge and experience this group brings helps make connections and suggestions that go far beyond financial support.

Some of the tasks volunteers complete are to review Expression of Interest proposals and provide timely confidential feedback, prepare for, attend and debrief following site visits with Foundation staff and, if willing, provide up to four hours of specific pro-bono assistance to applicant organizations. Volunteers appreciate the valuable experience of discovering and learning how they can contribute to the community in which they live and work.
