International
As the national network for Canada's community foundation movement, Community Foundations of Canada is deeply committed to building strong relationships with philanthropic organizations around the world.
Modelling philanthropic leadership at home and abroad is one of CFC’s three strategic goals, and since the organization’s inception, CFC has played a key role in establishing and supporting international philanthropic networks.
CFC staff members often participate or play leadership roles within these networks and we, and our members, regularly host and/or visit organizations in other countries to build learning relationships and share resources.
Objectives
- Enhance the leadership of community foundations across Canada, by creating strong relationships with philanthropic organizations around the world
- Support the international growth of philanthropy by sharing CFC resources and the Canadian experience with organizations in other countries
- Enrich our own communities by deepening our knowledge of the successes and challenges facing cities, towns and villages across the globe
Impact
- Currently hosting Transatlantic Community Foundation Network at CFC’s office in Ottawa
- Helped found Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support in 1999 and continue to play an active role in supporting its work
- Funded the attendance, via scholarships, of more than 50 delegates from 27 countries at CFC’s 2008 National Conference
- Supported the creation and growth of Youth in Philanthropy movements in Russia and Australia and shared resources with countless foundations from other countries
