Community Foundations Addressing Poverty
From Good Causes to Root Causes is an online toolkit developed by Community Foundations of Canada, in close partnership with our members, to help community foundations and other organizations focus more strategically on poverty issues.
The toolkit was created with funding by the Government of Canada's Social Development Partnerships Program.
Objectives
- Contribute to local efforts to move from the alleviation of poverty to the reduction and prevention of poverty
- Encourage community foundations to explore local opportunities to tackle the root causes of complex social issues like poverty
- Support community foundations in their efforts to think more strategically about their grantmaking and other activities
Impact
- Brought together community foundations in some of Canada's largest communities, including Hamilton, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal
- Highlighted and shared approaches, best practices and challenges among these communities and the entire CFC network
